“Today marks a historic moment as we formally unveil Twinsfest 2025, a festival that transcends entertainment
to embody humanity, heritage, healing, and global unity. It will be rooted in the courageous legacy of Mary Slessor, who ended the centuries-old killing of twins in this region”. This was contained in a statement delivered by Ambassador Offiong E. Akpan Chairman, Mary Slessor Heritage Project / Twinsfest 2025, while unveiling the event for 2025.
He said Twinsfest stands as one of the most meaningful cultural revivals on the African continent. “Her compassion
restored dignity, saved generations, and transformed our collective history—and it is this legacy we honour as
we gather today.”
According to Ambassador Offiong Akpan the press conference officially signals the commencement of preparations for a festival that will strengthens Akwa Ibom’s identity as a rising centre of cultural tourism. Attracts global interest from diaspora communities, researchers, twin families, NGOs, and cultural institutions. Builds pride and unity within our people and Inspires a new generation to remember where “we came from, and to celebrate how far we have come”.

The Carnival of Nations — a multi-continent cultural parade. The Global Twins Heritage Exhibition honoring the Mary Slessor legacy. The Roll Call of Nations featuring global communities in unity.
Cultural Music, Drama, and Heritage Performances. Empowerment Awards as part of Renewed Hope and Arise Agenda.
The twin Day Declaration according to the organisers will be a global unifying moment.
