SUBMERGED DREDGER AT EKO BRIDGE : NIWA Issues Marine Notice to Boat Operators, Fishermen

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has issued a Marine Notice to Boat Operators, Fishermen and the general public about a submerged dredger at Eko Bridge, near the Ebute- Ero jetty in Lagos State.

A Marine Notice dated 8th April 2025, titled ” Public Awareness on Submerged Dredger at Eko Bridge, Lagos” issued by the NIWA Management is to guide boat operators, fishermen and other waterways users of the danger the said incident poses and to take safety precautions.

The Marine Notice which was signed by the NIWA Management and sighted by Roamrepporters online, reads:

” The National Inland Waterways Authority wishes to warn the general public about a sunken dredger located at Eko Bridge, near Ebute- Ero jetty which is a potential threat to navigational safety and environmental stability.

” The incident which took place on Saturday 29th March , 2025 poses a hazard to river crafts navigation in the area, especially during low tide or poor visibility conditions. We urged all fishermen and boat operators to exercise caution when operating near the affected area. Warning signs and markers are being installed in collaboration with NIWA and Marine safety officials . Untill proper removal or mitigation steps are taken, avoiding the vicinity is strongly advised.

” You co- operation is crucial to ensure public safety and environmental protection.

” While we count on your unwavering co- operation and collaboration in this regard, please accept the assurances of our highest regards and commitment in restoring navigational safety in this vicinity promptly”, the notice said .
