The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Customs Command has intercepted and seized cannabis indica weighing 51.25kg worth N256, 250,000.
According to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Joy Eghosa Edelduok the seizure was made possible through the CGC’s policy trust of collaboration, consolidation and innovation.
“On Wednesday the 11th of September, our vigilant officers, working in conjunction with the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a consignment of cannabis indica weighing 51.25kg valued at ₦256,250,000.00 . This violates the provision of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, section 55, sub-section 1c and 1f”, she said.
Comptroller Joy Eghosa Edeldouk during a press briefing on Wednesday declare and hand over the seized Cannabis Indica to the head of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and also warn potential law breakers in the maritime sector to change for good.
“The negative impact of hard drugs on the social, economic and political lives of a people cannot be overemphasised. It is therefore fitting that the efforts put in by Officers and Men of the Service continues to yield fruit in order that the Nigerian people may be truly protected from the menace of hard drugs.”
Comptroller Edeldouk promised that the Service will make sure that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on perpetrators of such heinous crimes and anyone caught attempting to smuggle contraband or banned substances into Nigeria will face the same fate.
