The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Electorial Commission (ASECO) is keeping its 14 BOT candidates and over 700 license owners preparing to vote at the election guessing as is yet to fix a definite date for the election.
Moreso, as the ASECO is overwhelmed with the over 700 licenses registered as voters in the election and has vowed to thoroughly verify the authenticity of those licenses.
According to Statement to its members in a latter dated 26th July, 2024, signed by the ASECO Chairman, Elochukwu Obiora and Secretary, Oluwatope Fatimehin, the electorial body said it has placed on hold the BOT election activities to verify the over 700 licenses , as well as observed the proposed nationwide protests, before communicating a new date to members.
The statement reads:
” ASECO, sequel to the powers derives from Section 22 (2),(d) and (c) of the ANLCA Supreme Constitution ( as amended) and in line with Section 13 (d) of its published 2024 BOT Election Guidelines.
” The commission , therefore write to inform our numerous members that the subsequent activities ( items No 8 to 11) lined up in the published timetable are hereby placed on hold forthwith.
” This decision hard as it may, was predicted on the fact that a thorough verification exercise of the over 700 licenses is imperative for a successful election.
” Furthermore, the envisieged nationwide protests calls for restrictions and caution during the period under review.
” The commission will be closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds and will come up with varied timetable once the situation normalize.
” We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding , while regretting any inconvenience this decision might cause anyone”, the statement concludes.
