CUSTOMS CG’s ONE YEAR IN OFFICE: Dr Farinto Rates Performance in Six Areas

The immediate past Acting National President of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr Farinto Collins Kayode has released his scorecard on the performance of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi one year in office.

Farinto who is also a Consultant to the House Committee on Customs and Excise, while talking to journalists on Wednesday said though, the Customs boss has done well in some areas, but also scored him as low as 20% in some areas, which according to his rating amount to an average of 41% in those areas.

According to his scorecard, the Customs CG scored 60% in anti- snuggling and border security, 60% in National Security and 55% in Revenue Collection. While he scored him as low as 25% in Stakeholders engagement, 20% in Trade Facilitation and 20% in compliance to international trade conventions and policies as domesticated in Nigeria.

Farinto further said some of the launched tools like the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), Time Release Studies ( TRS) and even the celebrated Nigeria/ Benin Republic trade agreement are not working due to lack of adequate implementation by the Customs.

He also advised that the CGC should limit his travellings and settle down to implement trade policies that will help Nigeria out of the woods.
