The Murtala Mohammed Airport Command of Nigeria Customs Service has achieved a milestone revenue collection of N28,997,303,642k for the months of January and February 2024. The amount supassed the two months target by 20%.
According to a statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, VICTOR OGAGBOR , a Superintendent of Customs, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, described the revenue feat as a result of the synergy and compliance from both Officers and stakeholders. He further urged officers and men of the command to sustain the tempo.
The breakdown of the Command’s performance shows that in the month of January 2024, it collected a total revenue of
N14,754,044,196k. This figure exceeds the Command’s monthly target which is N11,982,616,104.16k by 23.1%.
Similarly, for the month of February 2024, the Command collected a total
revenue of N14,243,259,448, also surpassing the Command’s monthly average target of N11,982,616,104.16k with 18%.
While the expected target for the months of January and February 2024 is N23,965,232, 280.32k, the Command , however collected a total sum of
N28,997,303,644. This reflect a geometric increase of N5,032,071,435.68k, representing an increase of 20% of the expected target.
Aside from the revenue generated, a lot of other anti-smuggling activities were also carried out that leads to the interception of 50 pieces of 9mm live ammunition
which was discovered in a joint examination conducted by the NCS and the National
Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). While two suspects were arrested and
detained pending further investigation.
In the area of protecting wildlife and endangered species, 1,164kg of
Sea Cucumbers and 58Kg of Donkey Genitals were
intercepted.
Given the recent revenue exploits of the Command, Comptroller Mohammed Yusuf has charged
Officers and Men to remain resolute in other to justify the confidence reposed on the
Service by the Federal Government and also to meet the expectations of the
Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR in the areas of
maximum revenue collection, legitimate trade facilitation and suppression of
smuggling.
Furthermore, he reiterated that his office is open for dialogue and suggestions on ways
to improve Nigeria Customs Service delivery and achieve federal government
objectives.
He further applauded Officers and Men of the Command
and other Sister agencies for their cooperation while describing Customs relationship with them as excellent which is geared towards achieving government goals.
