Johann Rupert and family heads into the new year as Africa’s richest man. Rupert, 73, is a South African billionaire businessman, who is the eldest son of business tycoon Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte. He is the chairman of the Swiss-based luxury-goods company Richemont and the South Africa-based company Remgro.He is from South Africa and the 192nd richest man in the world.

Next is Aliko Dangote, 66, a Nigerian businessman and industrialist, best known as the founder, chairman, and CEO of the Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa. He is from Nigeria and the 228th richest man in the world.

The third richest man in Africa is Nicky Oppenheimer & family who is worth $8.3 billion. He is from South Africa and trades in Diamond. He is the 283rd richest man globally.

The fourth richest man in Africa is Nassef Sawiris from Egypt.
He is worth $7.4 billion and he is into construction and investments. He is the 345th richest man in the world.

The fifth richest African is a Nigerian. He is Abdulsamad Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA Group. He is worth $5.9 billion and trades in cement and sugar.
Rabiu is the 489th richest man globally.
