After barely four months as the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved the confirmation of Adewale Adeniyi as the substantive Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
This was contained in a statement issued by Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, who said the appointment takes effect from 19th October, 2023.
Recall that President Tinubu appointed Adeniyi on June 19, 2023 in an acting capacity to replace his predecessor, Col Hameed Ibrahim Ali ( rtd).
The statement reads, “His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the confirmation of the appointment of Adewale Adeniyi (MFR) as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“The appointment takes effect from 19th October, 2023 and his tenure is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).
“The President tasks him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
The new Customs boss who is a core and thorough breed Customs officer rose through the ranks up to the rank of Deputy Comptroller General ( DCG), before he was appointed Acting Comptroller General. A former National Public Relations Officer of the Service for more than 20 years. He is a dogged and professional Customs officer with full knowledge and potentials of the Customs job.
Adewale Adeniyi attended the Universitaire Svizzera D’ Italiana (USI) – Lugano—Switzerland with a Master of Arts in Communication Science November 2013.Obafemi Awolowo University – Ile-Ife, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in International Relations June 1987.Modakeke High School – Modakeke, for his SSCE – June 1979.
He is currently the Vice President of the Governing Council of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (FNIPR) and member International Public Relations Association (IPRA).
He holds a National Honour of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR), dsm – Distinguished Service Medal (Gold Category), psc(+) – Passed Staff Course (+) among others.
